minimal_8 - 8x8 retro assets 1-bit / 2-bit (free demo)
_about_
minimal_8 is a top-down 8x8 (or more precisely 7x7) tileset with a strong retro/roguelike vibe. The assets are designed for medieval RPGs, roguelikes, or TBS (Turn-Based Strategy) games with a consistent and appealing aesthetic. The minimalism of the tiles, combined with different color palettes, allows them to fit various biomes and environments while maintaining a cohesive style.
minimal_8 exists in two forms:
- 1-bit (2 colors: sprite and background)
- 2-bit (4 colors: 3 for the sprite and 1 for the background)
- + some characters in a higher resolution (for portraits in an RPG for example)
There's several colors option for both version, as well as a custom colored background available for each.
The demo version of minimal_8 contains only 1-bit assets from the v2. It can be used for your non-commercial projects. Please credit me, and feel free to notify me if you use it!
The paid version includes all the assets (full 1-bit and 2-bit assets and is licensed under CC BY 4.0. You can use it for both commercial and non-commercial projects, as long as you give proper attribution :).

Is there a way I might be able to get the palette you use for this and Polykromia? I'm a new pixel artist, I love your work and this set, but I don't know how to put the ramps together correctly. If there's any way you can help
Sure! I just added an .aseprite file and a .png with the palette. You should be able to use it in any pixel art software :)

I just looked into itch, and it seems like I can’t really create a bundle with both packs because the minimal_8 base pack is free. I’ll look into it further when I have some time, and I’m planning on releasing a new asset pack eventually. Perhaps a bundle would make more sense at that time !

I absolutely loved this!
One question: the reward version is, in some ways, more restrictive than the free version, because the CC BY-SA license forces the user to use the same license in derivative works. So, for instance, if I make a game using these assets, my game - even if sold commercially - would still have to use the CC BY-SA license. That means whoever purchases it is able to freely distribute it. On the other hand, with the free version I could distribute - but not sell - my game using any compatible license. Is that intended?
If not, the simplest alternative would be to use the CC BY license instead, which does not have the "share alike" clause while still requiring attribution.
